Poll: Best Italian, best sushi in costa rica....

Search
Hmmm....

While I agree with Il Invernadero, I gotta disagree with Ceruttis. Way too over-priced for the quality of the food and service.

Il Ritorno (the old owners of Ponte Vecchio's) is excellent.

As for sushi, I agree with ya there. However, let it be noted that the sushi here, on a whole, is nowhere near the quality in the states.

Please dont get me started on this...

Sakura is the number one sushi restaurant in Costa Rica.

As for Italian, I'll throw you a place you've never heard of...Sabor a Mediterraneo...its right before you get to Naranjo.....run by a guy, Paolo Ferrari. Very good italian food.

Tico,

Invernadero is one block up from Samurai. It is on the little hidden street...from the pista...drive past Samurai and make your next right....go down 50 meters...left hand side. We agree on Sakura...

Judge,

Very good spot.

GUYS...TRY THE GERMAN CLUB IN SAN PEDRO. INCREDIBLE FOOD AND A VERY FRIENDLY CHEF!!!

For Sushi, I'm actually partial to Oku (acr0ss from San Pedro Mall). Equal to Samuri, and not too expensive either.

Samuri is great because they deliver, even into central San Jose.

Not a good place for Sushi is Little Seoul, behind Plaza Mayor.

There's a sushi restaurant by La Sabana, Benhamins or something similar in name. Any good? Oku is a little far for me now.

Italian, incredibly slow but very good Risotto is La Piazetta on Paseo Colon.

Il Ritorno II is great food for the price, I was very surprised to get the bill of (something like) ¢19,550 for three people, with all of the food we got. For great food and real cheap prices, this is the place to go.

I've been to the German Club a couple times, had the Beef Brochette once, and the Beef tenderloin (did not like the tenderloin at all). I've yet to try the lamb chops, I'm told they are amazing, everytime I've been, they haven't had them.

Olivio's (where Mac's going away party was) has excellent food. Used to go there every Monday for dinner and Monday night NFL.

Ponte Vecchio's has great food also. I guarantee you will not see "The Big Ice Special" on the menu, but order it anyway, you will not be disappointed. It is a dish that has been handed down to select few and now me (the last) am passing it on. Don't even ask what it is, please order it, come back in here and tell me how amazing it was, I swear..

Samurai has incredible food, great, fresh sushi and the beef tepanyaki (sp?) is amazing. BTW, Adam, Oku is nowhere near the quality of Samurai, sorry.

But, one that always sticks out to me is Jergin's. I go there a lot, food is great, service is next to none (although a little pricy).

Sakura is the best sushi in C.R. at the time, unfortunatly I rarely go there anymore as they raised their prices to an astronomical high. (8000 colones for Hamachi sashimi), you got to be kidding me. Now I may go once every other month.

Samurai I will never even think of going to ever again. Their fresh fish sushi quality has gone so far downhill I now rate them with Sushi Itto. And not only does their fish suck, but they dont give you but a weee weee little tiny bit anyways, which in the afterthought is good.

Al Molino is in my opinion a great Italian restaurant. I first found them with some friends about 3 1/2 years ago in San Carlos of all places, and they have just recently (I think in the past 1 - 1 1/2 years) moved here in Escazu. Good price, great atmosphere, good food.

Havent been to L'Olivio in ages, but plan to take my girlfriend there soon. If memory serves me well it was great, if not a bit pricy.

Il Invernadero is a good place also, but a bit pricy. Haven't been there in a while, mayhaps its time to go there soon also.

There's a new sushi restaurant in Santa Ana shortly after the gas station near the new AutoMercado leading to Belin. Its called Shogun. Had a little lunch with my lady. Food was fresh, not expensive (cheaper than shitty Saumurai and way cheaper than Sakura), and the atmosphere is great. Run by a Panamanaian woman. Go figure.

Will try some of these other places mentioned by fello posters. Thank's for the input guys.

OH. Cant forget Sale Y Pepe in Escazy by Pop's. I just love this place too. Its Mom & Pops style Italian which I love. Great service, great food, great prices.

Good call, exactly what I like as well. That's why I like Il Ritorno II. Great food, very cheap.
